Olisi Magazine: vol. 1

Olisi was a short-lived online magazine (distributed for free) which intended to showcase and highlight not just the Filipino Martial Art (FMA) systems, but more importantly, the students, teachers, and masters who practiced them. In its first issue titled “Maestro”, Grandmasters Rodel Dagooc, Tony Diego, Henry Espera, Roberto Labaniego, and Master Peachie Saguin were featured.

Unlike other coverage on the Filipino Martial Arts which focuses mainly on the fighting systems, Olisi’s goal was to tell the unique story of the people behind them. Through candid interviews and a very informal photoshoot, the Grandmasters narrated how they got started, the (literal and figurative) bumps and bruises they received along the way, and the colorful anecdotes they remember about their respective teachers.

Unfortunately, the second issue never materialized. However, the team behind the magazine still feels the need to tell the stories of the practitioners of the FMA which is why olisiblog was created.
